Recruitment procedure

  1. The program is limited only to the students with Polish citizenship
  2. Applicant must hold a master degree (or equivalent) in materials science, chemistry, physics or related fields.
  3. Applicant must be fluent in English.


Step-by-step application process

Application to the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science Polish Academy of Sciences is only possible through our on-line application system. (available here)

Required documents are submitted in Polish with the exception of Motivation Letter which must be presented both in Polish and English.

The applicant should complete and send via e-mail (email:nmfaryna@imim-pan.krakow.pl) the following documents:

  1. Application form (downloaded from here)
  2. Personal questionnaire (downloaded from here)


The applicant should present to the Selection Committee the following documents:
  1. Statement that the applicant agrees to participate in a Project (downloaded from here)
  2. Statement that the applicant has not been enrolled for any other Ph.D. studies and does not receive any other PhD scholarship (downloaded from here)
  3. Motivation letter (both in Polish and English) - Motivation letter should outline applicant's research interests, how the applicant intends to pursue those interests and his/her motivation to apply for a Ph.D.
  4. Curriculum Vitae
  5. Copy of ID
  6. Copy of M.Sc. diploma
  7. Copy of completed student's registration book
  8. Recommendation letter from M.Sc. supervisor and/or a signed acceptance of prospective supervisor to conduct applicant's Ph.D study

Additionally 4 photos must be delivered by the applicant when selection procedure is successfully completed.

All applicants will be invited for an on-site interview before a final decision is made concerning their admission to the PhD project.

Selection Procedure

The selection of suitable applicants to the PhD program will be based on performance and excellence criteria, such as duration of study, the final degree from a recognized and acknowledged university as well as above-average qualifications of the applicant for their respective research fields.
  1. Applications will be preliminary evaluated by Selection Committee (Head of the Institute, Scientific Head of the Institute, Head of PhD studies)
  2. Candidates will be shortlisted by the Committee
  3. Shortlisted candidates will be selected for interviews
  4. Personal interviews held in September
  5. Final evaluation of candidates by Selection Committee
  6. Offer of PhD position
  7. Start of PhD studies on the beginning of October 2011
