Equipment: Tensile testing machine - INSTRON 3382 and 6025
Rockwell hardness tester.
Description of the installations:
Testing machines INSTRON 3382 and 6025 are mechanical devices designed to carry out the investigations of strength properties at constant rate of traverse. The strength values are defined in accordance with the requirements of standards: “Tensile test” PN-EN 10002-1:2004 and “Static compression test of metals” PN-EN ISO 6508-1:2002. Additionally, it is permitted to optimize the investigation methods according to the client’s needs as well as to new abilities resulting from the technical progress. The system of data acquisition allows the results of a complete tensile/compression test to be registered continuously on a plotter and/or on a computer hard disk. The frequency of sending data to computer memory can be controlled by defining a preset value of the change of force, elongation (shortening) or time period. Test results can be registered by two load cells in the ranges of 0-10 kN and 0-100 kN. The accuracy of the registered force value for each registered range is below 0.5 %. The traverse rate can be changed smoothly in a controlled manner within the range 0.001-1000 mm/min. Additional instrumentation comprises:
¨ a set of extensometers,
¨ high temperature furnace,
¨ pneumatic jaws for tension of thin foils up to 1 kN .
¨ cryostat
The extensometers have the following base lengths: 50(+25) mm, 25(+12.5) mm, 15(+2.5) mm, 25(±2.5) mm, 15(±2.5) mm.
The three-zone resistance furnace designed to perform tensile tests at temperatures ranging from 473 K to 1473 K, either in a
protective atmosphere (e.g. argon) or in vacuum.

HARDNESS TESTING MACHINE FOR HARDNESS TESTS BY ROCKWELL METHOD is equipped with steel ball and diamond conic penetrators and a set of weights (588.4 N, 980.7 N and 1471 N), that allow one to carry out hardness measurements in various ranges
Preparation of samples for investigation
The laboratory tests samples supplied by customers. When determining the condition of order realisation, a customer is instructed about sample dimensions and shapes recommended by Polish Standards, and about admissible deviations of dimensions as well as the method of preparing samples for investigations.
The main factor limiting the dimensions of samples to be examined in statistic tensile tests is the value of loading force, which cannot exceed 100 kN. When investigations are conducted at low or high temperatures, admissible sample dimensions are additionally limited by the installations co-operating with the testing machine, i.e. the size of constant temperature zone, both in the cryostat and the resistance furnace, as well as the specific requirements related to mounting samples in their holders.
