Atomic ordering P. Czaja and his work in July

In July I learned about atomic ordering in my alloys and how it may influence the martensitic start transition temperature. Strictly speaking depending on the chemical arrangement of atoms, occupation of lattice sites, there are three possible ordering variants. L21 representative of the Heusler structure in which all atoms in a ternary stoichiometric Heusler alloy X2YZ occupy their designated positions. This gives the full Heusler structure consisting of four interwoven fcc sub lattices. But in reality there is always some degree of chemical disorder influencing many of the physical properties of alloys. When X atoms stay ordered and disorder occurs between Y and Z atoms then we speak about a B2 structure. The third possibility arises when X and either Y or Z sites become disordered which leads to DO3 structure. The type of ordering obviously affects many of the properties as has already been said among them martensite start temperature. Therefore ordering may serve as tool for transition temperature control.

In July, the measurements of the treated discs texture using ultrasound sonotrode and generator, which took place during a visit to the company SonicArts in Warsaw. Discs were subjected to ultrasonic waves with an amplitude of several micrometers in 12 seconds while being boiled power on the device. Are on a single disc for the two reference alloys AZ31 and AZ91, and three discs for each of these alloys was sonicated successively in opiłkach iron placed in a container with water, the aqueous suspension of alumina and similar properties of the substance to the non-Newtonian liquid. Similar treatment was tape AZ91 alloy after extrusion side by Kobo and engine blade elements. Samples identified high stress state is treated with ultrasonic waves in a suspension of alumina for a period of 12 s with a power consumption 92 W. fragment pressed on the sleeve of the flange to the head without a proxy, as two pieces of tape from austenitic steel.

Report: June 2012

June was the time that I spent mostly on preparing myself and my computer program for the conference. Now I have some time
to sum up what I've already done and what are the next steps. For experimental data analysis we could use boundaries
reconstructed by dream3d software. One disadvantage is that we are dependent on an external tool. However, this tool is becoming more and more popular, and more and more powerful, so we are avoiding coding unnecessary parts which are already done by someone else and are done good, and we can focus on our part of work.
If the communication between the external program and my program is easy, there is a chance that some people will use it.

3DMS conference

Taking advantege of wasting my time at the airport I've decided to write a couple of lines about the conference I've just attended.
Its title was "3D Materials Science" and its purpose was to give the community involved in any kind of three-dimensional analysis of materials to meet
and exchange their experience. The conference was followed by an additional workshop related to software for microsturcture analysis.
The most important observations are:
1) Nobody does analysis similar to mine.
2) However, many scientists would be happy having them.
3) It leads us to another confirmation that our work makes sense!
Based on the workshop I've found out that some of of ideas would help, and what is really important for my further work
I had an opportunity to learn the new verision of DREAM.3D software which is able to create and smooth surface mesh of boundary surface. This procedure is essential for extracting boundaries from experimental data.
