Development of aluminium alloys

Aluminium alloys are widely used because of their unique combination of properties. During seminar the following subject will be discussed: general principles of the physical metallurgy of aluminum alloys, the role of alloying elements, precipitation hardening and work hardening, classification of the alloys (wrought and cast alloys), microstructure/property relationships. The influences of alloy composition, microstructure and heat treatment on chemical and mechanical properties of aluminium alloys will be discussed in relation to its applications. Particular attention will be devoted to development of new compositions and new processing methods including rapid solidification and powder metallurgy.
